Viacrusis at St. Johns English Version

On Palm Sunday , March 16, Saint John’s Catholic Church in Pensacola celebrated for the second year the Passion of Christ, with the reenactment of the “Viacrusis,” (the Road to the Crucifixion), similar to passion reenactments in countries like Spain, México, Colombia and others Spanish countries.  The event was produced by El Ministerio Católico Hispánico del condado de Escambia.

Good Friday is one of the most important celebrations of the Catholic Church, memorializing the day that Christ died on the cross.  Hispanic people celebrate not only with the regular rites of the Church but with different acts of atonement and penance depending on the country.

The Hispanic Ministry reenacted scenes from the Viacrusis on the beautiful grounds and natural setting at St. John’s Church.  About 30 people rehearsed for about 6 weeks and made costumes and authentic looking props.
