Restos de una embarcación supuestamente española fueron encontrados cuando se prepara el terreno de una construcción en la Estación Aero-naval de Pensacola. De acuerdo a las investigaciones preliminares, se trataría de una embarcación del siglo dieciocho. Así mismo, las evidencias indican que la embarcación era española y se utilizo durante las exploraciones lideradas por De Luna. Sin embargo, el curso de las investigaciones podría cambiar estas conclusiones.
La Doctora Benchley del Instituto Arqueológico de UWF y una de las mejores conocedoras de arqueología del Golfo de México, afirmo que los artefactos encontrados pertenecerían al siglo XVI. Mas excavaciones y estudios se realizaran en el futuro y nosotros lo mantendremos informado ante cualquier descubrimiento.

Pensacola Spanish Ship Found at NAS Pensacola
Recently a ship was found while preparing for construction at NAS Pensacola. Archaeologists were brought in to investigate and evaluate the find. From the preliminary information that we have it is thought to be a ship from approximately the eighteenth century. Upon finding parts of the hull, there was great anticipation that the find was a Spanish Galleon from the De Luna era, however, after more careful evulation that is probably not the case.
Dr. Benchely from the UWF Archaeological Institute, one of the foremost
archaeologist of the Gulf Coast area, says that artifacts found make it
highly unlikely that it dates back to the mid 1500s. More excavation and
research will take place in the near future and we will keep you posted on
the findings.
