Belleza Local Gana Lugar en Desfile Miss Florida Latina ~ Local Beauty Wins Spot in Miss Florida Latina Pageant English Version

Marianela Santiago López, 19, de Pensacola competirá en el desfile de Miss Florida Latina de este año. Nacida en Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. Santiago López es una nueva estudiante de Pensacola Junior College.

Santiago López ha participado previamente en otros desfiles.  En 2003, fué nombrada Miss Spirit America en el desfile National American Miss, en el cual compitió contra 135 concursantes. En 2004, Santiago López ganó "Best Personality" en el desfile Pacific Island Princess y fué seleccionada para avanzar al nivel nacional. En 2005, ella participó en el desfile de Miss América Starlet, y fué nombrada como el "Best Hair Style," y fué selecionada a avanzar al nivel nacional.  En 2006, compitió en el desfile Miss Teen Hawaii U S A.

Ella fué la única participadora Latina y ganó el premio de People's Choice.

"Estoy un poquito nerviosa, pero creo que eso me ayuda a permanecer alerta" dijo Santiago Lopez.  "Participar en un desfile puede abrir muchas puertas para una concursante.  Me gusta ser parte de organizaciones que ayudan a la gente y el desfile de Miss Florida Latina es una gran oportunidad de representar a la comunidad Hispana a travez de trabajos de caridad y servicios a la comunidad."

Ella añade que competir es estos desfiles fomenta un sentido de orgullo.

"Mucha gente cree "yo no soy lo suficientemente buena" o "Ellas son mejores que yo," pero yo siento que competir en un desfile como este demuestra que no importa de donde viene o quien es Ud.  Si Ud, cree que puede hacer algo, lo puede hacer."

El presente titulo de Miss Florida Latina pertenece a Samaria martinez,Cubana, nacida en Cienfiegos y quien emigró a los Estados Unidos a la edad de diez y seis años con su familia.  En Septiembre 2007 Samaria Martinez participó en su primer desfile de belleza, convirtiéndose en la ganadora y poseedora del titulo  de la primera Miss Florida Latina. Su meta es continuar sus estudios para obtener su Bachillerato en Negocios Internacionales.

Los desfiles de Miss Florida Latina y Miss Teen Florida Latina son desfiles de belleza y programas de becas dedicadas a presentar la belleza y talentos de mujeres jóvenes de descendencia Hispanica que viven en Florida. El objetivo es inculcar orgullo cultural, auto estima y cualidades de liderasgo en muchachas jóvenes.  El desfile provee una oportunidad para Latinas de avanzr sus carreras y metas personales aprendiendo acerca de su patrimonio, desarrollar auto estima y comunicación.  Las participantes deben de tener de 18 a 27 años, ser de descendencia Hispánica, solteras, y que nunca hayan sido casadas.  No hay requisitos de peso, altura o experiencia.

El desfile de Miss Florida Latina esta programado para el 31 de Agosto en el Hotel y Spa Buena Vista Palace Luxury en Orlando.

Marianela Santiago Lopez, 19, of Pensacola will compete in this year’s Miss Florida Latina pageant.  Born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, Santiago Lopez is an incoming student at Pensacola Junior College.

Santiago Lopez has previously participated in other pageants. In 2003, she was crowned Miss Spirit America in the National American Miss pageant, where she competed against 135 contestants.  In 2004, Santiago Lopez won “Best Personality” in the Pacific Island Princess pageant and was selected to advance to the national level.  In 2005, she entered the Miss American Starlet pageant, was awarded “Best Hair Style,” and was selected to advance to the national level. In 2006, she competed in the Miss Teen Hawaii USA pageant. She was the only Latina contestant, and won the People’s Choice award.

“I am a little nervous, but I think that just helps me stay on my toes! . . . Participating in a pageant can open many doors for a contestant.  I love being part of organizations that help people, and the Miss Florida Latina pageant is a great opportunity to represent the Hispanic community through charity work and community service,” Santiago Lopez said

She adds that competing in these pageants promote a sense of pride.  “Too many people think ‘I am not good enough’ or ‘They are so much better than me,’ but I feel that competing in a contest like this shows you that it doesn't matter where you come from, or who you are:  If you believe you can do it, it can be done.”

The current title of Miss Florida Latina is held by Cuban-born, Samaria Martinez.  Martinez was born in Cienfuegos and immigrated to the U.S. at the age of sixteen along with her family.  In September of 2007 Samaria Martinez participated in her first beauty pageant, becoming the winner and titleholder of the Miss Florida Latina Pageant.  Her goal is to continue her studies in order to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in International Business.

Miss Florida Latina and Miss Teen Florida Latina Pageants are beauty contests and scholarship programs dedicated to showcasing the beauty and talents of young women of Hispanic ancestry living in Florida. Their objective is to instill cultural pride, self esteem and leadership qualities among young women. The pageant provides an opportunity for Latinas to advance in their careers and personal goals by learning of their heritage, developing self esteem and networking.  Participants must be 18 to 27 years old, of Hispanic descent, single and never married.  There are no height or weight or experience requirements.

The Miss Florida Latina pageant is scheduled for August 31 at the Buena Vista Palace Luxury Hotel and Spa in Orlando.
