Celebrando "Latinas en la guerra global en terror" en el 4to simposio nacional de LATINA ~ Celebrating ‘Latinas in the Global War on Terror’ at the 4th National LATINA Symposium  English Version

La Cuarta Ceremonia de Distinguished Service Awards (Reconocimiento por Servicios Distinguidos) fué presentada a seis Latinas que sirven en las Fuerzas Armadas de los Estados Unidos en el único y más prestigioso evento que reconoce las contribuciones y dedicación de las mujeres Hispanas en el Servicio.  El Almuerzo de Condecoración fué el evento principal del cuarto Simposio Nacional de LATINAS, el Jueves 6 de Septiembre en el Capital Hilton Hotel en Washington D.C.  El tema este año fué "Latinas en la Guerra Global del Terror" y fué diseñado para hacer resaltar las significantes contribuciones que las Latinas hacen y sacar a luz los esfuerzos que el Departamento de Defensa está haciendo para incluir la participación de Latinas.

Este año las Distinguidas Condecoradas fueron:

Sergeant Major  (Sargento Mayor)  Venus Carpenter, U.S. Army

Lieutenant Junior Grade  (Sub-Teniente)   Angela Gonzales,  U.S. Army

Captain  (Capitán) Edna Rodriguez,  U.S. Marine Corps

Captain  (Capitán) Zinnia James,  U.S. Air Force

Master Sergeant  (Sargento Mayor)  Katherine Pérez, The National Guard Bureau

Lieutenant  (Teniente)  Xochitl  Castañeda,  U.S. Coast Guard

General de Brigada , Angela (Angie) Salinas del United States Marine Corps, la Latina de más alto rango en el Corps fué la oradora principal. Atendiendo y representando los diferentes servicios estuvieron algunas de las mujeres oficiales de más alto rango en el Servicio Militar de nuestro pais.

También en la audiencia estuvieron representantes del Joint Chiefs of Staff, La Casa Blanca, Miembros del Congreso, la Administración, Miembros de las Fuerzas Armadas, asi como también Hispanos de influencia de todo el pais que estuvieron presentes para reconocer las significantes contribuciones que las Latinas hacen en las Fuerzas Armadas.

The Fourth Annual Distinguished Service Awards was presented to six Latinas serving in the United States Armed Forces at the only and most prestigious event recognizing the contributions and dedication of Hispanic women in the Service. The Awards Luncheon is the event show-piece of the 4th annual National LATINA Symposium on Thursday, September 6 at the Capital Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C. This year’s theme was “Latinas in the Global War on Terror” and was designed to highlight the significant contributions Latinas are making and bring to light the efforts the Department of Defense is undertaking to include the participation of Latinas.

This year’s distinguished awardees are:

Sergeant Major Venus Carpenter, U.S. Army

Lieutenant Junior Grade Angela Gonzales, U.S. Navy

Captain Edna Rodriguez, U.S. Marine Corps

Captain Zinnia James, U.S. Air Force

Master Sergeant Katherine Perez, the National Guard Bureau

Lieutenant Xochitl Castañeda, U.S. Coast Guard

Brigadier General Angela (Angie) Salinas of the United States Marine Corps, the highest ranking Latina in the Corps will be the keynote speaker. In attendance representing the different Services will be some of the highest ranking female officers in our country’s Military Service. Also in the audience were representatives from the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the White House, Members of Congress, the Administration, Members of the U.S. Armed Forces, as well as influential Hispanics from across the country who were present to recognize the significant contributions Latinas make in the Armed Forces.
