The Florida Immigrant Coalition is seeking a fulltime Coordinator for 6 months (June- November) for a Voter Engagement Project to register 3300 new voters, get 6,000 people to the polls for the November 2008 elections, and develop existing organizations and their leaders in Palm Beach, St. Lucie and Highland counties.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

- Strongly believe in the importance of voter engagement

- Have a vehicle and be willing to travel in the tri-county area (Palm Beach, St. Lucie and Highland counties)

- Have internet skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, etc

- Strong field and office organizing skills

- Good oral communication and team-building skills

- Bilingual (Spanish) speaking abilities preferred but not required

- Available to work intensively for 6 months, including evenings and weekends

- Available to participate in regional training in Tennessee and local trainings

Central/Western MA Organizer: The Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition (MIRA), a statewide membership organization, advocates for the rights and opportunities of immigrants and refugees across the Commonwealth. MIRA advances this mission through education and training, leadership development, organizing, policy analysis and advocacy. Reporting to the Director of Organizing and based in Worcester, the Central/Western MA Organizer will work to engage MIRA member organizations and allies in the state and federal legislative process, and create strong local structures to develop immigrant leadership and advance the immigrant agenda.

 Job responsibilities:

· Work closely with MIRA organizational members in Central/Western regions of Massachusetts to engage in campaigns and legislative priorities

· Maintain regular communication with MIRA members and organize monthly members meeting

· Increase MIRA membership

· Engage members and allies in MIRA local, state, and federal advocacy efforts.

· Develop local action committees formed by members and allies in key cities to advocate for immigrant/refugees issues.

· Develop action plan and implement activities with local action committee's (ie. advocacy events, district meetings with legislators, press conferences).

· Engage members and allies in voter registration, education and turn out efforts.

· With policy and communications staff, work with members to organize quick and effective responses to urgent local issues or incidents.

· Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:

· Minimum B.A. degree or equivalent experience.

· Knowledge of issues affecting immigrants and refugees and commitment to serve that community.

· MUST HAVE 3-5 years experience in community organizing.

· Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.

· Experience working with diverse groups and communities. Must have good team building and coalition building skills.

· Self motivated. Ability to take initiative and succeed with minimal supervision.

· Employment requires extensive travel.

· Bilingual/Bicultural preferred. Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese preferred. Living in Central/Western regions preferred.
