Mes de la Heredad Hispana
Si Ud. no atendió las celebraciones del Mes de la Heredad Hispana, Ud. se perdió algunos de los mejores eventos culturales del año.
     No hubo escazés de como celebrar el Mes de la Herencia Hispana este año. Las festividades empezaron en Fort Walton Beach con el Hispanic Heritage Festival en el campo de la feria el 2 de Octubre.  Se estima que 4,500 personas visitaron a los vendedores, participaron en los juegos y bailaron.  Varios grupos de danzas culturales incluyendo Boricuas Ausentes y el grupo Panameño presentaron sus bailes culturales tradicionales. Los Danzantes de Salsa de Eglin animaron la fiesta antes de que el grupo Bandido tomara el escenario
     No faltaron las actividades y muchas familias se llevaron a casa premios, desde premios de entrada (door prizes) incluyendo membresias en Gold´s Gym y Curves y una bicicleta de la Asociacion de la Emerald Coast Realtors. alfareria y otros premios de la mesa de loteria Mexicana.
     El 7 de Octubre, Escambia County, Florida proclamó oficialmente el Mes  de La Heredad Hispana, reconociendo la populación Hispana que reside en el área.
     El 12 de Octubre se dió un reconocimiento en todo el estado de Florida a los Hispanos y a travéz de la historia.  La Costa Latina acompañó a Eglin Air Force Base Hispanic Heritage Committee y a sus familias a la recepción a la mansión del gobernador.  Varios estudiantes Hispanos y educadores fueron reconocidos.
     El Mes de la Heredad Hispana terminó estrepitosamente cuando estimadas 7,000 personas atendieron el Latino Festival en Bayview Park en Pensacola.  No hay duda que Dalena sabe como mantener a todo el mundo bailando, y los juegos y actividades proveyeron algo para todos, pero fué la comida de lo que todo mundo está aún hablando.  Vendedrores de comida representando 10 paises ofrecieron sus mejores empanadas, tamales y otros favoritos que no se encuentran en otro lugar.
     Un estruendoso "Gracias" a nuestros patrocinadores: Humana, University of West Florida, Baptist Health Care, WellCare, Pensacola State College y Catholic Charities por su continua y generosa ayuda. Gracias tambien a los veinte voluntarios de Naval Aviation Technical Training Center (NATTC) quienes ayudaron con todo, desde el equipo de sonido a asistir a los chicos a enhebrar cuentas para hacer pulseras.
     En Alabama, una nueva Miss Foley Latina fué coronada el 17 de Octubre en la fiesta anual del Festival del Dia de la Raza patrocinada por la ciudad de Foley y organizada por Alberto Lugo.  Nueve concursantes de Foley High School compitieron por la corona.
     Cuando nos acercamos al final de otro año, La Costa Latina está lista a traer más eventos y celebraciones a la Costa del Golfo, pero sólo pueden tener éxito si continuamos trabajando juntos.  Busque otro evento cerca del Cinco de Mayo. Lea La Costa Latina para detalles.

Hispanic Heritage Month
If you didn’t get out to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, you missed some of the best cultural events of the year.
     There was no shortage of ways to celebrate Hispanic Heritae Month this year. The festivities started in Fort Walton Beach with the Hispanic Heritage Festival held at the fairgrounds on October 2. An estimated 4,500 people attended throughout the day to visit with vendors, play games, and dance. Various cultural dance groups including Boricuas Ausentes and the Panamanian group performed traditional cultural dances. The Eglin Salsa Dancers heated things up before Grupo Bandido took the stage.
     There was no shortage of activities here and many families took home prizes from vendor door prizes including memberships to Gold’s Gym and Curves and a bicycle from the Emerald Coast Association of Realtors to pottery and other prizes from the Mexican loteria game table.
     On October 7, Escambia County Florida issued an official Hispanic Heritage Month proclamation recognizing the Hispanic population that resides in the area.
     October 12 was a statewide recognition of contributions made by Hispanics within the state of Florida and throughout history. La Costa Latina accompanied the Eglin Air Force Base Hispanic Heritage Committee and their families to a reception at the governor’s mansion. Several Hispanic students and educators were recognized.
     Hispanic Heritage Month ended with a bang when an estimated 7,000 people attended the Latino Festival at Bayview Park in Pensacola. There is no doubt that Dalena knows how to get everyone on their feet, and the games and activities provided something for everyone, but it was the food that everyone is still raving about. Food vendors representing ten countries presented their best empanadas, tamales, and other favorites not easily found elsewhere.
     A resounding “thank you” goes to sponsors Humana, University of West Florida, Baptist Health Care, WellCare, Pensacola State College and Catholic Charities for their continued and generous support. Thanks also to the twenty volunteers from the Naval Aviation Technical Training Center (NATTC) Air Department at APACT who helped with everything from the sound equipment to helping kids string beads to make bracelets.
     In Alabama, a new Miss Foley Latina was crowned on October 17 at the annual Dia de la Raza Festival provided by the City of Foley and organized by Officer Alberto Lugo. Nine contestants from Foley High School competed for the crown.
     As we move toward the end of another year, La Costa Latina is ready looking forward to brining more events and celebrations to the Gulf Coast, but they are only successful if we continue to work together. Look for another event around Cinco de Mayo. Keep reading La Costa Latina for details.
