WSRE Está Criando Lectores!

     Aprender empieza al nacer.  Cuando los padres y niñeras hablan, cantan y juegan con los bebés, la habilidad del lenguaje se desarrolla. Asi como un niño aprende a gatear antes de caminar, aprender a hablar y entender palabras de vocabulario es un prerequisito para aprender a leer.  La iniciativa de WSRE Ready to Learn (Listo para Aprender) puede ayudar a los padres y niñeras a construir una base de aprendizaje en la casa, la escuela, en las guarderias, en la comunidad--a cualquier hora en cualquier lugar. 
     WSRE, la estación local de PBS en nuestra área, es una de 20 estaciones de PBS en los Estados Unidos participando en la iniciativa de alfabetización Criando Lectores,  Ready to Learn (Listos a Aprender).  Financiada por el Departamento de Educación de los Estados Unidos, Criando Lectores (Raising Readers), muestra programas de televisión agradables, juegos excitantes, sitios web entretenedores  y fuentes fáciles de usar para prender a los niños , padres, niñeras y maestros.  Todos estas fuentes incorporan lo último en investigación sobre las formas más efectivas para niños de 2-8 a establecer habilidades de lectura, con énfasis especial en las necesidades de niños de familias de bajos recursos.
     Abundantes recursos están disponibles para asistir a los padres y maestros, desde consejos de alfabetización en carteles y anuncios en la televisión a eventos de la comunidad y cursos en la red, Teacherline, basados en alfabetización. El progreso de aprendizaje de un niño puede ser seguido en PBS KIDS Island (http://pbskids.org/island) un sitio juguetón del Web repleto de juegos que enseñan como reconocer las letras, los sonidos de las letras y vocabulario.  Las familias también pueden visitar PBS KIDS Library Corners, ubicadas en bibliotecas del área, que ofrecen recursos para la casa, libros gratis y computadoras para jugar PBS KIDS juegos.
     Se ha dicho que se necesita todo un pueblo para criar un niño.  WSRE cree que se necesita una comunidad para criar lectores.  Visite wsre.org, haga click en Raising Readers y descubra como Ud. puede ayudar a hacer una diferencia en la vida de un niño.  También puede visitarnos en Family Expo el Sabado 11 de Septiembre en Pensacola Fairgrounds de las 9 a.m. -3p.m.

WSRE is Raising Readers!

     Learning begins at birth. As parents and caregivers talk, sing and play with babies, language skills are developed. Just as a baby learns to crawl before walking, learning to talk and understand vocabulary words is an essential prerequisite of learning to read. WSRE’s Ready To Learn initiative can help parents and caregivers build the foundation of learning at home, at school, in childcare, in the community — anytime, anywhere. 
     WSRE, our area’s local PBS station, is one of 20 PBS stations in the United States participating in the Ready To Learn Raising Readers literacy initiative. Funded by the United States Department of Education, Raising Readers features engaging television programs, exciting games, playful websites, and easy-to-use learning resources for kids, parents, caregivers and teachers. All of these resources incorporate the latest research about the most effective ways for kids age 2-8 to build reading skills, with a special emphasis on the needs of children from low-resource families. 
     A wealth of resources are available to assist parents and teachers from literacy tips on billboards and television spots to community events and web-based Teacherline literacy courses. A child’s learning progress can be tracked online with PBS KIDS Island (http://pbskids.org/island), a playful Web site filled with games that teach letter recognition, letter sounds and vocabulary words. Families can also visit the PBS KIDS Library Corners located in area libraries, featuring take-home resources, book giveaways and computers to play PBS KIDS games
     It has been said that it takes a village to raise a child. WSRE believes that it takes a community to raise readers.
